Wilcox Township

Welcome to the Wilcox Township web site.

Wilcox Township is located in the heart of Newaygo County, just minutes north of White Cloud, Michigan.

Our township has many natural features including Manistee National Forest.  Recreational activities include boating, camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, horse back riding, off-road activities and many others.

Wilcox Township is a zoned community and therefore governed by a zoning ordinance known as the Wilcox Township Zoning Ordinance of 1991 as amended.  The latest published amendment was 18 December 1997.  There have been changes to the Ordinance since then that our current Township Board has not published for reasons unknown to those desiring to keep abreast of the changes.  When these changes are made available to the public, they will be posted to this web site.

In Wilcox Township the Township Board is responsible for the overall operation of the township using Federal, State, County and local (Zoning Ordinance) guidelines.  The township board is authorized by various statutes to take the following actions that affect township planning and zoning:  1) Enact Laws; 2)Adopt a Budget; 3) Appoint boards and commissions and 4) Exercise other authority granted by the zoning ordinance.

The Wilcox Township Board established a Planning Commission by resolution on May 18, 1978.  The Planning Commission was given zoning board authority at that time. The Planning Commission therefore has all the powers and duties granted by Public Act 184 of 1943 and Public Act 168 of 1959 as amended.

This web site was created in the hopes of providing information to the township residents.  Please feel free to return to this site on a regular basis.  Also, if you have any comments, ideas, suggestions, etc., that you would like to make, click the Residents Comments link.
